You need a blog for your online business! Here's why.

So you've heard a bit about blogging and that it's key to growing your online business. But maybe you're thinking, "Is it worth the time and energy?"

Well, I'm here to tell you that it is, especially if you run solely online with no brick and mortar connection. Blogging is the gold nugget of growing and is highly underutilized by brand new business owners.

If you're looking to increase your exposure, have more income, be successful online, then read on, my friend.

You need a blog for your online business! Here's why..png

1. Search Engine Optimization

A blog is arguably the number one way to optimize your SEO or search engine optimization. It essentially determines whether your website will appear when someone goes to Google and searches for your services.

Search engines, like good 'ol Google, organize the internet's content to offer the most relevant results to customer queries by crawling, indexing and ranking your site.

If you're visual like me, then you can imagine billions of little spiders crawling all of the worldwide interwebs looking for flies (aka content) and then taking it back to their lair to be properly stored for a meal later (aka a search result).

The more flies (content) you have, the better! Because there are more opportunities for your website to appear as a relevant result to your potential customers. And the more often you publish, the more your website will be crawled and indexed, keeping your website "alive" and allowing your content to appear more quickly.

Creating consistent, relevant content is key to getting your business on the screens of ideal clients. Content can vary, of course — it could be a podcast, a video, images, or a regular blog post - regardless, all of these things can be written in a blog format with keyword-rich language to be crawled and indexed.

2. Validating yourself as an expert in your field

Besides getting visitors to your website, blogging will help to validate your business. The content you produce on your business's topic will prove to potential buyers that you are an expert in your field and help tip them over the edge and make that purchase.

I mean think about, who you are more likely to buy from. The company that says, "Trust me, I know what I'm talking about," with no evidence of that expertise or the one that proves it over and over again through helpful content that they give away for free?

I have purchased countless products I wouldn't usually buy because of Instagram influencers. Why? Because the ones I follow know their shit, and they prove it to me over and over again.

3. To teach and explain to your audience

This next bit is just great advice for you as a business owner. It'll save you time and energy to blog about commonly asked questions, misnomers people have about your industry and help prepare customers to buy your products and services.

I blog on the regular about top questions I get from clients. Yes, I could send an email explaining the same things over and over again... but why would I do that! It's much easier to say, "That's a great question! Check out this blog post," saving my precious time.

Likewise, I have followers who have questions about what it's like to run an online business and work with a web designer. Providing information like this in the blog helps them better understand what I do and the confidence to reach out and book a free consultation call.

Introverts in the house, raise your hand?!

Trust me when I say that most want information they can read before making that phone call or sending that email. So give potential clients all the juicy details on your blog!

4. Creating a two-way conversation

A great way to grow a relationship with your audience is through blogging! You're essentially starting a two-way conversation by putting content related to your business out there in the world.

And while you may not see an immediate return of dialogue, you can bet that potential customers internalize what you say and will respond to your content down the road via a message on social, an email, or even a phone call.

You're taking that leap of faith and yelling, "Hello! Is anyone alive out there?!" Don't worry. Your audience hears you. They just have to swim in sub-zero temperatures through a sea of bodies to get to that whistle. It takes time, you know? So get the ball rolling.

5. Easy social media exposure

And last on the list is something we could all use a little more of - easy social media exposure. Creating consistent content means that you have something to share on Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest etc., etc.

Rather than posting for the fifth time this month about your services and asking your audience to "buy now!" You can share some gateway information to help get them to your website and achieve the steps I mentioned above.

After all, social media is all about relationships. Why not use your blog to help grow them!
